On June 27, Nippon Paint Held Its 183rd Annual General Shareholders' Meeting, With An Agenda That Included Two Reports And Two Proposals Requiring Deliberation. The Meeting Went Smoothly, With All Items On The Agenda Approved By A Majority Vote. At Nippon Paint, The Term Of Office For Directors Is One Year. As Such, The Second Proposal Sought Shareholder Approval For The Election Of Directors, Which Was Approved As Originally Proposed. At The Board Of Directors Meeting Held Soon After The Closing Of The Shareholders' Meeting, I Was Officially Appointed To Take The Position Of President For Another Year. In This Fourth Year Of Assuming The Presidency, I Will Renew My Determination To Help Achieve Business Growth For The Nippon Paint Group And Contribute To Society. Doing So, I Believe, Is Perfectly Aligned With The Intent Of Our Corporate Slogan, “hit The Market, Fight For The Som” Established This Past April. In The 127th Year For Nippon Paint, It Is Our Aim To Achieve Sustained Growth Toward The 140th And 150th Year, And Continually Improve Our Corporate Value. To Realize This, We Must Change Our Conventional Stability-focused Path To A More Aggressive Growth- And Challenge-oriented Path. I Also Believe That A Longer-term Perspective Is Necessary For Our Strategies. Based On This Belief, During Fiscal 2006, We Embarked On A New Five-year Management Plan, Aiming At 2010 As The Final Target Year. During The First And Second Years Of This Long-term Plan, Our Focus Was On Strengthening The Corporate Foundation Of Nippon Paint. Having Completed This Two-year Preparatory Period, We Will Approach The Third Year Of The Plan By Devoting Our Group's Collective Efforts To Hit And Win In The Marketplace. Currently, Nippon Paint And Our Industry As A Whole Face An Unprecedentedly Difficult Situation. But I Believe That This Challenging Time Makes Our Real Corporate Strengths Clearly Visible And, In Fact, Gives Us A Great Opportunity To Demonstrate Our Fundamental Power.
